pieces (warning: rant ahead)

is what i am in. the record is official - i utterly detest the cruel study-for-exam ways of marketing. as in hate hate hate. maybe it's just me (i like to say it's monash *puke*). some say it's dead easy (the 37 y.o. marketing manager-classmate of a huge timber company for the past decade). some say it's oh so interesting (the theorist mother). some say it's my bad attitude (the practitioner father). [momentary sidetrack: i am much pleased with myself for having said to dad, and i quote - myself - *grin*, "i don't see why in the world i have to force myself to pretend to like something i totally hate. this sucks." *proud*] some say it's a [lack of] confidence thing (the helpful beyond new heights lecturer). all say it's immensely helpful for real world use blardyblabla. RIGHT.

i say - why in the world am i doing a POSTGRAD subject from the BUSINESS AND COMMERCE faculty for a PUBLISHING/EDITING degree, where the average student is a suit donning full-time corporate pen pusher hailing from the baby boomer era who talks the talk and walks the walk? oh yes, global relevance. tell me again how it is anyone expects an incompetent fresh grad to match up to all these know-hows who believe you me, know how, what with that vast array of practical experience and just that many years first hand hands-on under their shiny versace belts (or in their leather loius vuitton briefcases) who apparently need MORE education on the matter. if THEY need help, i need a coffin.

wow whee, great chance for some real life sponging. oh sure. as far as sponging for sponging's sake goes. in fact, i think it's completely fascinating. OTHER THAN THAT, in a (polite) word, i'm SCREWED.

i say don't try to market marketing to me dammit. i may be stupid but i'm not thaat stupid. if i don't like i don't like!

favourite topics include: all things of the stockbroking world ibm luxury cars politics harley davidsons IT-rich i-dunno-whats etcetera etcetera. yes i am a sheltered lil oblivious thing. and i am happy. the vast actual examples of i-can't-say-what don't help since i have no idea in the world what they ARE, let alone do, because they are oh, let's say a used-to-exist company/trend/thing 20 y.o or so. i-can't-say-what things woosh woosh wooshing over my head has a whole new meaning for me, nevermind the pass-is-not-a-pass-unless-it-is-a-credit requirement. like what the??? so pass is a... fail? (don't get me started on the work requirement - i get blue in the face.)

so as you can see, i'm in a wormy fix thanks to the 6 point ELECTIVE which singlehandedly requires more work done than the 12 and 6 point core subjects do put together.

as for the ACTUAL publishing and editing, i gotta say i'm lovin it, hard (also) and all. as would any book-obsessed artsy person who would be terribly excited about the conception to birth of a book be, for instance. (had a printer excursion today - and a quaint bookshop one last week - i love i love i love.) or the itsybitsy details (i adore details) that go into the process of making a book. alignment colours ink types fonts cover designs paper types binding editing dimensions manuscripts printer specifications bring it on!

in other news, i'm still putting off picking my grad pics. what with the studio's killer prices and me mum's death grip on the family purse strings. though i am glad the risk i took putting my hair up produced results i'm happy to live with ("octopus tentacles" unasked for opinion of the other half aside).

speaking of hair, i cut it today. well, technically, mum cut it. with my constant anal direction of course. so far, the hair's behaving well. so this camper is hair happy.

EBD, if you're reading this, EWWO!

alex, if you're reading this, how what when??! i've forgotten again. i think i want to do a built up. CDs please thanks. (you excited yet?!?!)

*pant* that was therapeutic. now to tackle the blasted marketing plan. bleah.
that's the one thing i can't afford to have in pieces. grrr.

Well it's in 2 days time, so you'd better build up quickly...
