identity crisis

two mornings in a row.
the race to get old ic's changed to mykad's is on, and i'm an innocent bystander caught in the middle of this frustrating drama.
the powers that be have finally decided to, i hear, enforce the five or so year old rule of changing cards, the penalty being that if not done by dec 31st, a rm20 charge will apply.

day #1:
0755 bid just another day's jam a good morning
0848 arrive at jpn in pj, scout for carpark
0915 find carpark, head towards office
0915.5 get into line, office entrance nowhere in sight
0938 be thankful line is moving, if only slowly, and keep hope afloat
0941 see line start to disperse amid calls of "nombor habis!"
0942 persist at fast shrinking line (ooh, so this is how the inside looks like) at mum's insistence
0944 dodge suddenly appearing camerawoman, gawk as much possible from lowered head
0946 get form eventhough useless for today
0947 brave only the second jam today
1010 get to salak south, look for carpark
1011 soak in the sun making a beeline to very small very dingy jpn office here
1013 get sent off pretty much immediately. same reason as before

day #2:
0700 leave house, say hello to jam
0728 reach salak south jpn, park car
0729 keep mum from dropping at sight of line
0730 walk to end of line, around back of shoplot where office is located
0731 walk past the shoplot, get into line now along the back of shoplot next to jpn's
0830 wonder if my bed will still be warm when i get home
0832 get told to go home because, you got it, "nombor habis!"

adding to the injury, i was not late in applying. in fact, i've had my card for a number of years now. i lost it one night out in melbourne (that's another story some many scrolls back on this blog) and i do not deserve to have to contemplate the stupidity of why there needs to be this low-numbered numbering system for filling in a short straightforward form, handing it to the officer, waiting two eternities to get a digital shot taken and leaving practically forevermore, before you get your ic some many months down the road. it's not like they make it straight away and they only have so many cards they can do per officer in a day.

dingbats.

vern, if you're thinking of, don't even try to defend this one.

conclusion: i've decided my time (and holiday sleep) is worth a lot more than rm20. you know the rest.

ps. anyone reckon they can just print out a new copy of the old one? all the details are the same, and i actually like how i look there. *grumblegrunt*
